Wednesday! And a poll!

Yipiee, it's Wednesday Dance-day!

Hey, here's a question. One reader posted a comment in a previous post, wondering about the female opinion on colognes. Here's what he says:

I'd like to hear what you women like best on men, when it comes to them smelling sexy? I've rarely used Colognes, perhaps thats why I'm still single.lol Anyways 2-3 years ago I tried Obsession in which I received some positive feedback. Thanks for advice. Nice site, I enjoy your posts about SYTYCD.

James

Hi James! Thanks so much for visiting! Any guy who's a fan of Dance is alright by me!!

Personally, I love it when a guy smells really "clean". One ex boyfriend never really used cologne, but he smelled like a mix of laundry soap and Old Spice (Extreme Sport!), and I loved it. I'm not a big fan of huge musky spicy scents... much more of a clean-fresh-woodsy scent girl (think stuff like Chrome Azzaro, CK One, etc.)*. One friend uses Kenneth Cole Black, and that smells really nice on him.

I'll often love how some random passing guy smells, but have no idea what he's wearing. It's probably just their deodorant. I'll do my best to get out there and do some solid research for you on that though! ;)

What about you, ladies? What do you think smells good on a guy? And what do you think Benji smells like? (Well, aside from "ALL MAN", of course.... grrr! :P) Let's 'help a brotha out'!

* With apologies to any perfume connoisseurs out there, who probaby just threw up a little out of derision. I know... I have a terribly un-sophisticated nose. I'm sorry.

In college my roommates and I found a sample of Ralph Lauren Silver in a magazine, and it smelled so good we tore it out and hung it on our wall. Every girl who visited our room loved it.

Fun site!

OMG eyeshadow at the speed of light...I almost forgot that one. Too funny!
On a guy so far I've liked anything by Armani, but he has to smell manly not he probably uses more product than I do...ya know?
Irish spring soap also smells really good. Kenneth Cole has some really nice scents for men as well.
Benji probably smells really fresh and clean maybe slightly citrus like. Just a guess :)

Anon: Thanks for your comment! I'm a fan of RL's Romance for women, and the men's version smells quite nice too. Never thought to hang a sample on the wall! What a great idea though, to have something so nice to wake up to!

CW: Isn't it funny how old standby's like Irish Spring and Old Spice are so appealing? And fresh-clean-citrusy.... Mmmmmmm.....

I have two dance partners that drive me to distraction when they wear their signature colognes... One is Stetson, and the other is Angel for men. Angel is like lavender roses, chocolate, and something else spicy, but (sigh, drool) wow. Laundry detergent, maybe a little bleach - must be the chlorine, I was on swim team in high school.

To James: Whatever you wear, you don't need to douse yourself before you leave the house!! I'm personally a fan of things that smell familiar, like citrus and spices, not "cool ocean breeze" or "mountain mist" but that's my personal taste.

The best way to apply is to mist the scent into the air ONCE and walk through the cloud (mouth shut!) before it disperses. (Pardon the rant!) I can't stand walking through the mall or in a building on campus and walking through someone's cologne-zone. The worst is when you're trying to eat, and all you smell is some sticky sweet women's perfume cloud from the next booth or table. Gross!

The way I chose my perfume (I wear Burberry for women) is by going to the perfume counter in the mall. Use the cards to spray samples onto, and take them with you, see if you like them an hour later when it's faded from fresh out of the bottle. The one I chose was the one that I could not set aside, just kept it under my nose, breathing deep... Because the first person you should think of when you buy cologne is you - you're going to be smelling it all the time! Pick something you like!

Anon@6:25: Wow, thanks for your great comment!

I could not agree more! It's nice to wear something your partner or friends & family like, but ultimately, I think perfume should express who YOU are (or whatever mood you're feeling that day). For example, even if dear sweet Benji told me that he LOVES patchouli on a woman, I would never wear it, as I think it reeks horribly on me. I think he would respect that... :)

Thanks again for your input!!

Thanks Ladies for your advice, I'll have to try out some of those colognes mentioned. I have also heard another good way to apply colognes or perfumes is one or two sprays in the hair, cause the smell will last longer, something about it being put on skin only being bad cause natural skin oils delute and water down the smell.

On a sidenote I find commercials for Axe and redzone deodorant funny as heck, but alas false. So soo cruel, if getting the girl was only that easy for us men folk! Still they did the job and sold me, I now have both of them at home, I'm such a lemming.lol James

Opps almost forgot glitter, have to tease you a bit. How could the future wife of Benji Schwimmer neglect to see his performance last night, shame shame.hehe

Still you have the ultimate fan site for Benji, just wish I could have found one as good for Musa as out of the male dancers them two I think are best.

I want to see Benji win but next week they start solo routines, thats when Musa is gonna totally rock the house with his break dancing, Benji is gonna have to pull some major face and moves to beat him I fear!

Might want to repost this, sorry was to lazy to put it in correct section, tired been up all night.

James: Axe body spray!!! Man, that stuff is like a cultural point of reference now. Historians will later refer to the "Generation-Axe", just wait and see!

I don't think scent on skin is bad per se... your natural oils will alter the smell, but that's what makes scent so unpredictable... something that smells good on you might reek on me (um, besides the obvious fact that you are a dude and I am not, I mean). For us ladies, wearing scent in hair is sometimes nice because you get that siliage wafting by when we toss our glossy locks. I still like that old advice to "apply scent wherever you like to be kissed". Sounds like a plan to me!

Oh, and I did manage to catch the show last night... I just couldn't post about it until this morning. (Too much excitement!) I too am looking forward to the solo shows. Maybe ol' WhatsHisFace will finally stop whining about how Heidi knows everything and he doesn't, and just show us his damn moves already.

Your probably right concerning the cultural points of referances with Axe body spray. Oh, I left out Tag forget if thats same thing as Axe or not, but regardless Axe and Tag should be the poster boys for the phrase sex sells!

aka man in elevator sprays himself with tag, and 20 women come out of nowhere jump on him in elevator and doors close!
(perm image now burned in my mind darnit!) and every man whos not gay is overcome with envy wanting to be that man!

(At least up to the point where the elevator exceeds it's weight limit and they all blissfully plunge to there death!)

Anyways enough of that, between watching SYTYD, checking brain spam for updates, watching stargate(my other tv addiction)and writing emails all night, then finally ending up back here for some more fun I have been up for over 24 hours now. Must sleep, it's 4:30pm and results of sytycd is on in like 4 hours, hope I can make it:)

I have icq up 7530953 so if all else falls just send a msg when it's on and that annoying uh oh sound should wake me up.lol James

You know, as much as people like to make fun of Axe/Tag, it really doesn't smell all that bad when used in moderation. It's basically just deodorant. And hey, I'd much rather my date smelled like Axe than BO. Of course, if the dude is hunky enough, it barely matters what he wears! :D
